4 Habits that can be Dangerous ton Spine

Did you know some of your bad habits can be detrimental to spine health? Hence, it is important to
fix those habits and protect your spine. Here are some of the habits that can be damaging to your spine:

1. Poor Posture

Most people tend to ignore their posture. Bad posture (drooped shoulders, head down, locked knees) can put immense stress on the spine. Practicing good posture will help you to keep your body balanced and avoid unnecessary stress.

While standing, keep your feet slightly apart, knees straight, and chin slightly tucked in. Stretch the shoulders back.

2. Sedentary Life

A sedentary lifestyle is one of the major culprits behind back pain. The issue takes a toll on spinal health. According to a research, people who do not exercise regularly or suffer from obesity are more likely to suffer from back injuries and pain. In order to avoid this situation, you must get up and get moving! Add exercise into your daily routine. It will help you maintain a healthy spine.

3. Ignoring Back Pain

Going to doctor is no fun. However, it is an important thing to do especially of you experience persistent back pain. Do not ignore this condition. Fix an appointment with the doctor if you suffer from stubborn, chronic, or frequent back pain. Most cases can be handled non-surgically by spine doctors to let you live a pain free life. If left untreated, the condition can lead to serious and severe disability.

4. Smoking

Smoking has many harmful effects on the body. Cigarette smoking can result in early and severe back degeneration. Nicotine present in cigarettes (or in any other forms) can block transport of oxygen and other important nutrients to discs of the spine. Lack of oxygen can hamper ability of discs to repair themselves. This forces them to collapse (in a painful way) at a younger age as compared to those who don’t smoke. Also referred to as degenerative disc disease, it results in chronic back pain.
